Introduction

Great cook Haru has married into the legendary “Kitchen Samurai” family. But her husband who is the successor of the family can't cook at all.

 

Haru makes a vow to make him a superb samurai chef, and starts teaching her new husband how to cook. Directed by Yuzo Asahara, known for “Free and Easy” series, the film stars Aya Ueto “Oshin” (2013) as Haru, along with Kengo Kora “A Story of Yonosuke” (2012) as her husband Yasunobu, supported by the veteran actors Kimiko Yo “Departures” (2008), Toshiyuki Nishida “Outrage Beyond” (2012), and aromas and flavors of Kaga cuisine.

Haru has an excellent sense of taste and surpassing skill in the kitchen, but she has been divorced from her first husband after only a year of marriage because of her impetuous character.

 

One day, Haru is proposed by Dennai Funaki, samurai chef from Kaga, to marry his succeeding son. The Funaki family who has served the Lord of Kaga not with the “sword” but with the “kitchen-knife” is well known as “Kitchen Samurai” for generations.

 

However, now, her new husband Yasunobu wields a kitchen-knife with no skill at all. In order to save the family name Funaki and its position as kitchen samurai, Haru decides to teach him the art of cuisine...

The story is inspired by a real-life family in Kaga that has survived countless upheavals with its cuisine.
